Skincare Blogger

Hi, I’m Rayo Johnson, a pharmacologist who got a bit obsessed with skincare science and decided to start writing about it. Welcome to Skin Science Hub, where I translate complicated research into advice you can actually use.

Behind the blog

How it all started

I got into skincare because of my own skin struggles. I’ve always had dry skin that just wouldn’t cooperate, no matter what I tried. So naturally, I did what any pharmacologist would do, I started reading research papers at 2 AM trying to figure out why some ingredients worked while others did absolutely nothing.

I have my masters in pharmacology from Nottingham Trent University in the UK. For the past five years, I’ve been working in the beauty industry, but not in the way you might think. I’m not an esthetician or dermatologist. Instead, I focus on understanding how skincare ingredients work at the molecular level, which gives me a different lens for looking at products and formulations.

What really drives me is making sense of the science for people who want to understand their skin but don’t want to wade through journal articles or get condescended to by brands trying to sell them things.

FAQ

No, I’m not a licensed esthetician or dermatologist โ€“ I’m a pharmacologist with a MSc from Nottingham Trent University. My expertise lies in understanding how skincare ingredients work at the molecular level and translating complex research into practical skincare advice. Think of me as your science-savvy friend who loves diving deep into ingredient studies!

My skincare journey started with my own dry skin struggles! As a pharmacologist, I naturally turned to research to understand why certain products worked while others didn’t. After years of studying skincare ingredients and their mechanisms, combined with 5 years in the beauty industry, I realized I had a unique perspective that bridges scientific knowledge with real-world skincare solutions.

While I can’t provide personalized medical advice, I absolutely love educating people about ingredients and helping them understand what to look for based on their skin type and concerns. My approach is teaching you to become your own skincare detective โ€“ understanding your skin so you can make informed choices that work for your unique needs.

My pharmacology background gives me a unique lens for understanding skincare. While many bloggers focus on trends and personal experiences, I dive into the actual research behind why ingredients work. I believe in empowering people with knowledge rather than just telling them what to buy โ€“ because when you understand the science, you can adapt and make better choices for life, not just follow the latest fad.
